Beginning in December 2021, LITS is using a new authentication service called OpenAthens. This service replaces EzProxy. Library subscriptions are accessible only by current students, staff, and faculty. When you try to access a library database from off-campus, you will be prompted to sign-in with your Beloit username and password. The sign-in screen is the same that you use for your email, The Portal, etc. 

Can I link directly to a resource in a database?

When saving a link in a database, it's important that you find a stable or permalink instead of copying the URL from the main address bar - that link will expire and you will lose access to the resource. 

The process is slightly different depending on which database you're working in, but in most cases you need to look for the words 'permalink,' 'stable,' or 'permanent link.' 

Here are a few examples of how to access the permalink: 

EBSCO Databases (ERIC, Education Source, Academic Search Complete, etc.) 

ProQuest (ProQuest One, Dissertations and Theses, NYT Historical, etc.): 

• Open the resource by clicking on the title. 
• Next, select the 'All Options' button in the options bar next to the title.

• An 'All Save Options' box will pop-up. Copy and save the top link. 

JSTOR: 

Look for 'Remote Access URL' on the left side of the screen underneath the title and abstract in the item details box. 

I have older links saved, how do I update them?

You will need to swap the EzProxy URL (https://ezproxy.beloit.edu/login?url=) to the OpenAthens URL (https://go.openathens.net/redirector/beloit.edu?url=). 

For example: 

https://ezproxy.beloit.edu/login?url=https://www.proquest.com/scholarly-journals/using-augmented-reality-as-powerful-innovative/docview/2598118400/se-2?accountid=9042

Would become: 

https://go.openathens.net/redirector/beloit.edu?url=https://www.proquest.com/scholarly-journals/using-augmented-reality-as-powerful-innovative/docview/2598118400/se-2?accountid=9042
