How can I find an article from a citation?

Answer

When you find an article that is relevant to your research, we highly recommend looking through the bibliography to identify other interesting resources. There are several ways to find an article using a citation, including performing a general search, searching within a journal, and using Google scholar.

General Search

  1. Start on the Library Website.
  2. Locate the ‘Everything’ tab in the discovery box.
  3. Type in the title of your article. Put the title in quotation marks to indicate you are searching for the title as a whole. Example: “The Influence of Flow on Positive Affect in College Students.” Search.
  4. If you do not see the article in the first few results, you may need to use the limiters on the left to indicate you are searching for an article. You can also use the ‘Advanced Search’ function to indicate that you are searching for a title.

Searching within a Journal

  1. For steps to locate a specific journal, please see FAQ – How do I access a specific journal?
  2. Find the ‘Search within this Publication’ function and type in the title of your article.

Using Google Scholar

  1. Start at scholar.google.com.
  2. Type in the title of your article. Put the title in quotation marks to indicate you are searching for the title as a whole. Example: “The Influence of Flow on Positive Affect in College Students.” Search.
  3. If the full text of the article is available, there will be a link to the right of the article. If you have difficulties finding a particular citation, contact a librarian.
